Why your business needs a website

0

10 years ago I spent the best part of my time explaining to my clients why they needed a website; today, they tell me that they need a website.

A website is more than your calling card – it’s part of your business identity. Years ago, a website was your on-line presence, your 24×7 salesperson, or representative, always available for anybody to find and learn about yoru products and services.

Today the same is true – once your website is live, it’s there for any potential clients to find and buy from you – it’s a ‘no-brainer’ of an idea, you’re simply loosing money by not having a website.

But today somethig else is at play – having a website has now become the standard – a way for your potential clients to measure you up against your competition! Imagine entering a room, or an exhibition, and presenting your services to a group of very interested people. You can be sure that unless your product or service is completely unique, you DO have competition… and it’s realistic to assume that the consumer today is wise to competition and choice, so they’re going to shop around. Here comes the deciding factor: your website. When you hand out your business cards to your potential clients… you MUST have a web address – I really don’t need to tell you how important this is.

If your business card has no website address on it, you will almost always instantly turn off your prospects. They will wonder WHY you don’t have a website. They will wonder if you can’t afford a website – and if so, why should they do business with you? (Everybody likes winners…)

If your business card has no website address, you can bet that your competition’s business cards DO have a website address. By having no website on your business card or stationary, you’ve already lost out to your competition.

If you DO have a website, you’re only half way there: today’s consumer is not only wise, (s)he is educated and knows the difference between a shabby, old website and a nice up-to-date website. This now becomes the measuring rule of thumb by which you and your company is judged and compared against your competition.

To recap:

  • If you have a poor website, you can be sure your competition has a better one – this means you’ve lost the deal.
  • If you don’t have a website you really don’t stand a chance – your prospects will be turned off to the idea of doing business with you.
